Engine cut out when hot, would re-start after 1 minute, run for 1/4 mile, cut out, and repeat. I put 4 new coil packs, 4 new spark plugs, new crank sensor, now won't start at all. Garage says it's the ECU - engine won't fire on any cylinder.
Where can I get an ECU from, where on the car is it located, can I just swap them, will it need re-coding?
I have a local ford dealership, and local auto-electrical guys looking at it at the moment, will know more tomorrow...
I would be very surprised if the problem is the ecu.
It's more likely a power supply relay that's causing your issue.
Thanks for the info. It turned out to be a broken wire. The mechanic checked the crank shaft sensor, but wasn't getting a signal via his scanning tool/datalog. He just tugged at each wire in turn, and hey presto, one was broken. Good videos on YouTube about how to check/test crankshaft sensor. ECU was ok, and I'm back on the road.
