Title: Central locking
Post by: Frenchmicky on July 14, 2012, 05:21:01 PM
2004 1.9tdi ghia. I lock the car using either the blip or door lock, rear doors not locking. motors are continually cycling but not locking, front doors lock ok. Tried manual locking rear doors but as soon as locking front doors rear doors unlock. Help please

Both rear doors? A little weird - I've seen the locking controller go out of sync before now but thats normally on earlier Mk2's however may be worth pulling the battery for 10 minutes and letting it reset. After that its most likely to be a wire broken in the door loom as I can't see the lock switch going on both rear doors at exactly the same time...

I disconnected the battery but is still the same, this is my daughters car so don't get to see it much. When you say door wiring loom are you talking about the connections in the door gaiter? and are they plug or continuous loom through door post ?

Yes the wiring insulation breaks down inside the gaitor, either causing short circuits or sometimes the cable itself breaks. Quite often it looks ok until measured out with a meter - and yes they are twist open plug and socket style where it enters the cabin.

Update: Managed to check car today, 5 broken wires in offside rear door, 1 in nearside rear! All fixed now and everything in working order. Thank for the input. ;)
