Morning all!
Well for the past few month my mk1 has been running well! As some of you will know my ordeal with the auto box an the decision to repair it my self was a gamble[emoji53] which I'd like to say payed off[emoji41] I've done about 2k from short work trips an motorway trips, all running well, slight jurckyness between gear chainge but I can live with that! But I digress..... MPG, I know it's never going to be like my old Ford Focus 50+ mpg
But I'd expected more that 25-30 on short trips..... An absolute best on motorway with cruse control on is 45mpg.... I know the autos are a bit heavy on fuel but would have thought it would be that much. Any thoughts guys??
Thanks all!
Have you got a Mk1 or a Mk2? I thought you had a Mk2. The best my Mk2 130ps TDI manual seems to return with lots of stop start town driving is about 25-28 mpg, the best I've seen on a longer run about 42 mpg, so what you're getting isn't much different to me. I don't pootle about everywhere but I don't use the throttle as an on/off switch either! I don't think the figures you're getting are out of the ordinary.
By comparison, my partner's VW Touran (1.9 TDI 105ps- same basic PD engine) returns consistently higher MPG than my Galaxy, at least 10mpg higher on average if the trip computer is to be believed. Admittedly it's a smaller, lighter vehicle and in this form is making a bit less power and torque.
if it makes you feel better
i get 17mpg pottering around and around 25mpg on a motorway combined. :o
glad we only do 800 miles a year ! thats only reason i bought it.

I would echo that.
My 115 PD manual 2005 does around 35mpg with lots of short journeys and some much longer ones. I think about 550 miles is all I've ever got from a full tank.
Ive seen forum posts claiming 50mpg but find that hard to believe.
Of course if you get up to speed on a motorway then zero the fuel consumption indicator and carry on driving for 100 miles on a quiet motorway then yes, perhaps 50mpg is possible. But that's not real world.
hogwash ;) oh goody lets have a debate on mpg.
on a motorway i got 59.9 out of my old mk2 tdi.i was driving like miss daisy though.
used to get high 30's low 40's round town.
im getting on average 38 in my smax round town and goes up to about 45-50 on a run.
I get 35-40 around town and in my MK2 TDI 130.
Earlier this year I got slightly over 50mpg on a trip where I did Otley (LS21 slightly North West of Leeds) to London to York and back to Otley in a day when collecting my son from his year in industry and taking him back to York Uni.
There were a lot of 50mph sections on the M1 and not much congestion. I also relied on the trip meter and had no seats in the back and it was empty on the Otley to London and York to Otley legs.
Yes sorry mk2 I meant..... Well from what every one is saying I'm not doing to bad!! [emoji16] ..... As regards to the 50mpg I have accesses to a manual galaxy as well (works bus) we use her for parts collection an picking up small motorbike... She does get abused abit[emoji57] an I've actually had 55+ on the motorway with loads for stuff in the back got bk top the tank an work it out an it was pritty spot on, we'll all said I should just live with it an be kinder on the right foot!!
I may add the works Vhehical is own by our accountant he may only be late 40's but drives like a 90 year old to the point if there's a down hill section he will knock it into neutral an coast down hill bits... I did mention to him that, that's abit impossible in my auto [emoji38]
