Driving the gas guzzler the other day to pick kid up from uni to bring home, though i would try the tip tronic thing and move gears by hand, a novelty ! anyway don't know how i did it but somehow knocked it back into the left hand gate of fully auto mode without knowing
then i moved the stick as i thought i was changing it down myself and ended up in neutral revving the " round hairy objects" off it. i stuck it back into D and carried on.
just wondered if doing this by accident can cause any damage , it carried on no problem but then sod me i did it again. left it in D for rest of journey got home no problems since .
is there some kind of safety system built in ?
wouldn't want it to become one less v6 on the road.
If damage was going to be done I would think you'd know about it pretty soon afterwards!
I'd think the engine management might have a rev limiter, as for the gearbox, not sure, though it shouldn't allow you to move it into a mode that would could cause damage to itself- such as reverse when doing 70 mph on the motorway!
My little Ka I owned before the Galaxy, on a few occasions unbeknown to me whilst driving the throttle pedal managed to slide under the carpet mat and the engine revved itself out until I figured what was going on! Caught me out the first time, I knew what was happening subsequently!
thanks for the reply, maybe no one knows ! i did some more web research and most seem to say its not a problem as the engine is running and pumping the fluid round the box or however it works .
