Hi iv a galaxy 2.0 tdci 2009 with 154000 miles on it , question is when doing a oil and filter change what oil should i use for this milage of car, iv found it should have as standard 5/30. thanks Garry
I wouldn't consider changing the oil spec just because the engine has covered a lot of miles, just stick with a decent 5/30 synthetic oil as recommended and change it between services, as long as the oil you use meets the required manufacturer's spec then it should be fine.
I agree, go with original spec. Make sure you change the oil filter at the same time, and I would aim to change the engine oil more often than you might want to, maybe every 8,000 to 10,000 miles. When I change mine at 8,000 miles (approx), it costs me approx Ã,£25 for Triple Qx oil 5-30 fully synthetic and an oil filter. Make sure you put the right quantity in too, and keep an eye on your sump plug to make sure it doesn't leak from a faulty washer...
I would concur that its not best to change oil grade just because of the mileage unless its consuming it. Might be one to ask our new oil experts... :
