Title: Mot advisories
Post by: Pugaloo on August 30, 2015, 09:39:24 AM
Hiya I was told to come along here from another forum lol.
My galaxy had its mot back in May and a few advisories came back :/. Just wondering if anyone knows what parts I need to be asking for (is it a new steering rack and suspension) and is it worth fixing? If so does anyone know how much they think it would cost?

I have enough money to either buy a new second hand car or get this one fixed! But need to know what to do for the best! Car is mechanically sound other than the mot issues! I have attached a copy of what they said :/. It's a 2000 Galaxy by the way. 2ltr petrol

There isn't anything on that list that is overly worrying, the question is are you a DIY'er or will you be paying a garage to do the work?

As a diy'er using some second hand parts, you should be able to replace the rack (assuming its faulty) put some new track rod ends on and fix the majority for about Ã,£150. A local bodyshop will probably charge you another Ã,£50/60 to weld up the sill.

However if you are paying a garage to do the work then the labour cost of replacing a rack will probably be significant. Either way it should still be cheaper then a replacement car, but only you know what condition yours is in and if its worth it...
