My son in law has a 2006 (56) tdci Galaxy and the bonnet warning light is on all the time. He has cleaned the switch under the bonnet but the warning still persists.
Can anyone solve this dilemma for him?
It could simply be a dodgy switch or contact. Or the switch has moved in it's mounting so that the switch plunger isn't being fully pushed in when the bonnet is shut and therefore it's still registering that the bonnet is open.
Oh is that all? he seemed to think that it was a common fault with the mk3 and is mildly freaking out about it. He has wd40'd it but it still remains the same with consequent's with the alarm going off as well. he is locking it manually with the key and that may have a knock on effect with his insurance company. I'll tell him to chill out , reposition it , or get a new one ha!

What I said in my previous post were only suggestions, they're not definite causes- there could still be other reasons! It would appear that the ajar switch is actually integrated into the bonnet latch on the Mk3 Galaxy, so if it was me, I'd be trying to disconnect the wiring connector to the latch and seeing if I could make the lamp go out by bridging the terminals (assuming the switch completes a circuit when the bonnet is shut thus causing the lamp to extinguish). If this works then the latch itself is the probable culprit.

I had the same issue on my 1st MK3 Mondeo - so just unplugged the wires, cut off the connector, stripped them back, soldered them a little and insulation tape and job was done.
As been tight and from Yorkshire I didn't want to fort out for a complete new lock mechanism from Ford.
