Title: Ford Galaxy - Headlight Masking for Driving Abroad / Europe
Post by: Mirez on June 22, 2012, 06:50:54 PM
There are two tyres of headlamps fitted to the Galaxy - Halogen and Xenon. Read > HERE (https://www.fordmpv.com/smf2/reference-library/galaxy-mk2-xenon-(hid)-headlight-knowledge-base/) < if you are unsure which version you have.

This section is for HALOGEN lamps:

This topic details how to apply a headlight mask to the Galaxy Mk2 Headlight for driving abroad:
Note: The templates and instructions are for RHD vehicles only, they are not compatible with LHD vehicles!

1. Print out the PDF containing the templates that's attached to this post. (Right at the bottom of the thread or, if you are logged in, click here (https://www.fordmpv.com/smf2/wip-board/galaxy-headlight-masking-for-driving-abroad/?action=dlattach;attach=806))
2. Measure the X measurement on the printed template.
3. Calculate the enlargement/reduction factor using the formula:

Enlargement/Reduction% = 25 / X Ãâ€"100. Where X = measurement on the printed template in millimeters

4. Use a photocopiers enlargement/reduction feature to adjust the template using the value obtained above. Print again and the X measurement should now be 25mm.
5. Cut out the prepared templates from the sheet and then cut out the hatched areas. The templates are now ready for use on the headlamps.

6. Place the O/S template onto the O/S, Drivers headlamp lens:

Use the headlamps side alignment line (1) to position the side of the template (3)
Use the headlamps lower alignment line (2) to position the template (3)

7. Use a suitable non-permanent marker to mark the outline of the template.

8. Remove the template and use suitable black adhesive tape to cover the area ensuring you don't stray over the outline

9. Repeat the process for the N/S, passenger side headlight:

This section is for XENON lamps:

Xenon lamps have an integrated deflector and can't be masked in the same way. The official way to adjust the deflector is to remove the bung on the rear of the lamp and turn the mechanism using a hex key. In reality this is extremely difficult for a number of reasons, 1) The ballest pack is in the way, 2) There is very little space to get to the back of the lamp and 3) The rubber bung is a VERY tight fit and MUST be refitted after which is easy said then done. Here is the bung in situ but with the headlight and ballast pack removed.

The easier way is to remove the headlamp, ballast pack and then cover (2 Star Screws) - with it removed you can see the mechanism that the hex key would turn however now we can just push the deflector up to mask the lamps:
