Title: crankshaft pulley

i have a noise from the drive belt area wen engine is ticking over, turning steering from side to side an noise gets louder an a bit of a squeal, could this be the crankshaft pulley, i have a galaxy mk2 tdi 2005, any help would be great

Not Crank pulley but alternator clutch pulley

Check the belt tensioner as well- I replaced mine recently as it wasn't adequately tensioning the belt under load and it was starting to slip/ squeal- especially if I turned the heated front windscreen on and turned the steering from lock to lock at the same time!
