Hi there its back to my Galaxy 2002 d its over heating agen I had the head gasket done about 25000 and its bin lovely all this time but to day it started agen over heating now it will over heat when its just sitting there long time had aa man out today said it may be fans so he bye passed them so on all the time and sill it went up he said thermostat was opening ok do u think yhe head may be gone agen cheers for any help martin
When the head gasket was changed last time was the head skimmed or checked to make sure it wasn't warped? What sort of colour is your coolant and is the level ok? There could be a few causes, it may be worth taking the thermostat out and checking that the water pump impeller hasn't detached from the shaft.
Hi there yes the head was not skimed but was checked and said it was all ok today I took of water pump and that was all hood that I could fill I did notice that the return pipe was not feedkng any water out of it but I thought that it ment to be all the time so I put the air gun in it and then it started to blow water out when I toped it back up today I talked to a friend who said about this new head sill u put in your water so I got some and they say they give your money back if dont work they say best stuff u ever buy so I going to use that see how I get on if not work dump it lol cheers
If it's overheating with the engine just idling and with the fans bypassed running continuously then something must be seriously wrong- usually from what I've read with head gasket failure overheating occurs under load at higher speeds, not when idling. Is the coolant definitely circulating? Is there any debris in the coolant? And is it definitely overheating? It's not just a dodgy temperature gauge or sender giving a false readout?
Hi yes its over heating it bobbing up so hot that water comes out of the cap over the battery cheers
Definitely overheating then! If the head gasket isn't already cooked it definitely will be if you drive it for long like that, and it sounds like it's too far gone for any coolant additive to make a difference- like I say if it's overheating at idle and with fans running continually then you've got a major problem. I'd check the coolant circulation next, if you're happy the water pump and thermostat are doing their job then the only likely causes are a coolant flow that's nearly completely blocked, which if all was running ok before seems hard to believe, or blown head gasket in a major fashion. Before stripping too much down you might want to get a cylinder leak down test done, which should hopefully tell you just how bad it is.
Yes u right but I got a bottle of steel seal that guarantee to fix any blown head gaskets waped heads cracked engine blocks or money back I going to put it in tomorrow see if works they say it will but who nos I can not lose anything to try cheers
NO! Until diagnosed that's a last resort, if you have poor flow that additive will just block it entirely. A PD engine produces very little heat normally, remove the thermostat and check again
The aa man said the thermostat was opening ok the bottom hose starts getting hot when opens
Hi so the pipe that return back to the tank should water be coming out of that all the time because it was not until my mate put the air in to the pipe then it started water coming out of it wood that make it over heat cheers
Ok befor I put anything in the car I going to tske it for a run out see how I get on cheers for help
Hi guys what u think I just bin for a 50 miles drive up to hi speeds and nom it sat at 90 all the time did not move the heater in side was very hot nom when I got home ,then with it sill started I fet all the holes and the bottom one was the only one that was cold all otheres were hot left it running for about 5 mins then bottom holes got warm but the car tep was sill ok at 90 so u think it all sorted if head gas was gone it wood not do all them miles u think cheers
If the restriction in the pipe was blocked then aeration in the system cannot return to the bottle and builds up in the top of the cylinder head.
AS to whether any damage has been done only time will tell, keep a close eye on coolant level for fluctuation also excess pressure in the system and when cold does there still seem to be pressure present when removing cap? if the answer is yes then I think your success may be short lived lets hope for the best :)
Hi thanks for that hope it be ok now so in morning I look and it was not return back at all but is now so is that right the bottom holes cold after 50 miles but did get warm when just sat there
hi there just an update see what u think i have left it overnight to cool down and got a vary small puff of pressure in the expansion tank dont think i lost any water hard to say if small done about 70 miles all in all cheers
Hi there I have done about 300 miles now from when last overheat and its bin ok but I sill have got some pressure in the expansion tank the next morning when I open it the water sill comes up a bit with the pressure in it do u think I should use some of the head steel seel for the head gasket cheers
As I said I think it will be short lived, you got nothing to lose by trying steel seal.
Hi there thanks for all your help can u tell me my car has not over heated it only over heated 1 time but I am sill getting a bit of pressure in over flow tank next day not loads after say 100 miles drive I have put some kseal in sill the same what do u think one garage said to me to drill a hole in top of cap put a small pipe on it to keep the pressure away cheers for any help I got mot in 1 week time dont no what to do at mo its bin ok
