hi all and firstly let me say thank you to all the guys on here with the answers that i have found by just browsing through the posts. i lost all my drive and thought the worst and then noted MIREZ's comments about the final drive coupling..that was my prob found one from j&r drive shafts and Ã,£85 later and 40 mins under the car all sorted. and also managed to sort out the parking sensors via comments on here again MIREZ and the guy who's picture has the sun hat on. any way a big big thank you.....now for my problem....mk2 2002 Galaxy Ghia 1.9 tdi
.my air con has always worked and was re gassed by a ford dealer when i bought her 3 years ago and i have never had a problem . i received a voucher for a re gas from ATS tyres after buying new tyres in February so i thought i would let them do it, being it has been 3 years since the last re gas..they re gassed it in June and it worked fine that weekend . I only use the car at week ends or if I'm going fishing so 2 weeks after i last used it started and drove off and noticed the car holding back ever so slightly between gear changes and then a burning smell from the engine bay and then warm air from the vents!. stopped the car and looked under bonnet noticed that the clutch part of the air con compressor was intermittently starting and stopping when it starts one aluminium pipe gets ice cold and the other gets roasting hot, when the clutch stops they both warm up. 2 weeks on and i have now just fully serviced her and also done the cam belt and water pump and also renewed the aux belt . aux tensioner looked fine and was working fine .a friend of mine who is a master tech at the local ford dealer reckons they have put too much gas in it so let a bit out and all will be fine?did this and let out a little puff and air con worked all last week end when i done a 150 mile round trip.now started the car this morning and the climate module is now flashing away and yet again no cold air and the compressor clutch on and off again..can any of you help me with this.. on the ticket ATS gave me it states gas level before was 783 and after re gas it was 1075. also i must admit that both front fans are on at start up??? never noticed this before maybe cos a wasn't looking for it ??
many thanks in advance for any one out there willing to help. Adam
follow up from my earlier post.. wondering if this prob could have something to do with the out side temp..
on start up noon today temp gauge stated 28 deg and the problem appeared making the control unit flash etc.
which made me post this question.... now i popped out this evening at 18.00 and on startup unit flashed but the air con was on and working and lovely ice cold air ! temp on unit said 22 deg. a lot cooler. drove 6 mile down to the shop all good and on re start to drive home control unit never flashed and i had air con all the way home . just tested it again at 21.30 unit states 17 deg and didn't flash and air con works??? which leads me to wonder if its a temp sensor prob....answers or thoughts appreciated.
Hello Adam and welcome5
Reading your post it certainly sounds like it's been overfilled, do you have duel aircon or just single? if you have roof vents over the rear seats then you have dual.
If you don't have the roof vents then your system was overfilled this can damage your compressor, the high/low pressure switch is supposed to prevent the system operating if the pressure is to high or to low.
It's possible the sudden rise in air temperature this week caused the high pressure switch to trip in and out preventing the system running continuous and would explain why it started working OK when the air temperature cooled down.
The flashing display means a fault has been logged in the diagnostic module, you can check this yourself with VCDS lite if you have an interface lead, once the pressure is back within the working range the display will stop flashing and the aircon will work correctly but the fault code will remain until cleared.
Hi Chris and thanks for getting back. popped out for a paper this afternoon and air con all seems fine. the unit has stopped flashing and the air is nice and cold..ive got my self a lead and the program off ebay but im having a row with my laptop at the moment cos it wont install the lead. i have been into ATS and the manager round there has offered me to bring the car back and they will completely suck out and re gas the system again FOC. it turns out that the guy that done it for me the first time now no longer works for them and he is only too willing to redo the car? on your valued opinion what do you reckon? should i let them redo it ? and do you know how much gas my system should hold , i have the single air con version ..no vents in the roof . thanks again, adam
That's good news if they are going to re do it for you, there should be a sticker when you lift the bonnet that tells you the quantity of gas.
Below is the quantity if your sticker is missing.
700+or-50grms for the single
1050+or-50grms for the dual
cheers Chris for your help very much appreciated.
