Title: Front shimmy on acceleration
Post by: Peter Burgess on June 21, 2015, 07:52:14 PM
When accelerating up to motorway speed today, the car seemed to develop a slight shimmy at the front. It wasn't enough to affect the steering, and it was fine at 70mph, but under load it was quite noticeable. I've driven 600 miles this week but I only noticed the problem today.
Tyres & pressures are ok.

Any ideas?

Thanks for your help.

Peter.

Did you sort out your front suspension (https://www.fordmpv.com/smf2/ford-galaxy/front-suspension-trouble-safe-to-drive/) issue from a while back? If not then that may have some bearing on it.

Thanks Paul.

Yes I wimped out & let the garage replace the components that were faulty.
Cover, bearing, top mount, bump stop & plate.

It's not too serious & I can't see anything obvious wrong, so maybe I'll wait 'till it gets worse!

It seems ok on uneven roads & fine cruising, it's just accelerating 30 - 70mph.

Thanks for responding,

Peter.

Hm, well the way you describe it (occurring under load) I wonder if it's actually early signs of wear in the inner CV joints, a common issue with the Galaxy and numerous threads on here about it if you use the search function. As it gets worse it can cause vibration and roughness- it manifests itself under load.

That's helpful, thanks.

I'll keep an eye on it!

Peter.
