Title: Galaxy 2005 CD PLAYER does detect CDs in changer
Post by: Hitesh on June 13, 2015, 09:19:55 PM
Need help with this issue. I have a Ford Galaxy 2005 1.9 TDI AUTO.
The CD player does not detect the CDs in the 6 disc changer. I try to play a CD and the message says NO CD. Has any one experienced a similar problem and is there a solution?
Regards
Hitesh

Did it used to work and stopped? Or has it never worked since you got the car?

It used to work and recently stopped working. I have read on some other forum to clean where  the changer reads the cassette. but not sure where I should clean.

Have you checked the connections into the changer in the boot storage bin?  It could have been disturbed if the bin has been used for storing anything else and knocked the wiring.

Then I'd probably just try a CD lens cleaning disk from ebay as the first attempt such as this -->http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/LASER-LENS-CLEANER-CLEANING-KIT-FOR-PS3-PS4-XBOX-360-BLU-RAY-DVD-PLAYER-CD-DISC-/171823852691?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item28017fec93 (http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/LASER-LENS-CLEANER-CLEANING-KIT-FOR-PS3-PS4-XBOX-360-BLU-RAY-DVD-PLAYER-CD-DISC-/171823852691?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item28017fec93) - Just because it's probably a pain to get at the lens in the autochanger mechanism.

My rear mounted 6 CD changer wouldn't read discs when I bought my Galaxy, I took it out to see if a local auto radio repair guy could fix it but he couldn't so I ended up substituting the tape player head unit for a single CD (6000 model) head unit -which will plug straight in and work with no wiring modifications required- and ditching the CD changer. Alternatively, there was somebody on  [eBay] selling new old stock genuine CD changers for 50 quid- see here (http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/GENUINE-VW-SHARAN-SEAT-ALHAMBRA-FORD-GALAXY-6-CD-CHANGER-/191074062485?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item2c7ce6d095), just make sure the part number matches your old unit first if you choose to replace it.

Hi, thanks. Have you experienced a similar problem? Is there a problem with these units ? I don't think there is a problem with the wiring but how can I prove it?  I can go ahead and buy another changer that may chic the problem.

The first thing you need to check is that power is getting to the changer unit itself- does the disc magazine still eject when you press the eject button? I've got a feeling that doesn't work if there's no power at the unit as I had to manually release the magazine from my old unit when I removed it from the vehicle.

I have checked and power is good as the cassette ejects when button is pressed. Tried to figure out how to clean the laser sensor/ head. Not easy to locate. Did remove the whole unit and took off all panels but not clear where to clean.

If you're happy that there is power to the changer unit then the next thing I would try would be to take the disc magazine out, empty the discs out and then put a couple of discs back into the magazine in random positions, then reinsert the magazine to the changer and with the head unit switched on see if you can hear the changer mechanism operating whilst it checks the discs and their position within the magazine (usually when the magazine has been removed and refitted the unit will check each slot for the presence of a disc). If you can hear it operating then I would try cleaning the lens as a next step, if not then I would suspect a mechanical/internal fault with the unit.

I gave up with mine and replaced it with an aftermarket head unit.

Thanks for your reply. I would like  to inform the community of my solution. Removed the unit from the front console. Disconnected all the connectors and aerial cable. After a short while reconnected all connectors and applied the unit code. Hey presto the CD startedworking. SO HAPPY.
