Hello folks! I've got 225/45/17" tyres at the mo, but I find them a bit uncomfortable. Fronts Pirellis rears BCT. I was wondering if I could put 225/50s or 215/55s to have a bit more tyre wall to soak up the pot holes? Cheers.
I don't think you'd want to fit different width tyres on the same rims, different profile may be a different matter if you can get tyres of the correct rim size, width and load rating but beware- fitting non standard size tyres may void your insurance if you were to be involved in an accident, I don't know the legalities of what you suggest but bear it in mind!
The alternative would be to get a set of standard 16" rims which use the 55 profile tyres.
Thanx for the reply! The 215s would be 95xl or the 225/50s would be 98xl load rating! Would I have a problem going with the higher load rating ones? Insurance wise?
I don't think they would have a problem with higher load specified tyres. If they want to wriggle out of a claim though they may have a problem if you don't have a standard wheel/tyre size setup unless you have told them and they have said it's OK. If they do say it's OK get it in writing!
Thanx Silverbeast! I think I'll put some 16s on it, I find the 17s too harsh! Even my kids are noticing the potholes! Cheers.
