Title: Key programming problem
Post by: Daibach1973 on April 08, 2015, 08:29:13 PM
Hello,

Last week, my key fob stopped working in that it failed to lock and unlock the doors remotely. I had the battery changed to no avail. I then carried out the reprogramming system as shown online (turning the key ignition 4 times, waiting for a chime, etc etc) This seems to have worked and everything was good.

Today my partner needed the car and used the spare key. Again, the remote unlock/lock failed. She opened the door by putting the key in but when she did, obviously the alarm sounded.

I have since tried to re-program the spare using the method shown above. The reprogramming worked but it 'over-rides' the original master key and now the master key won't lock/unlock the car remotely.

Everything ive read on-line says that up to 8 keys can be programmed as long as the reprogramming happens within 10 seconds of each attempt? Obviously not in my case!

Basically, I would like to have 2 keys that lock/unlock the car remotely and start the engine...is this possible without going to the expense of visiting a dealer?

Yours hopefully.....

Did you reprogramme both key fobs when you carried out the procedure? You have to programme all key fobs at the same time (by that I mean in the same procedure- not at the same instant!), the ECU will erase any previously coded fobs when you do this, so you can't just 'add' one whilst keeping a previously programmed key coded.

Eeek, how long have we been hosting that? Think we'll have to delete that, can't see that complying with copyright somehow!

However, the fault -

QuotePROGRAMMING THE
REMOTE CONTROL
You can programme a maximum of eight
remote controls to use with your vehicle
(including any supplied with your vehicle).
Programming a new remote
control
1. Insert the key in the ignition.
2. Cycle the key from position 0 to II and
then back to 0 four times in quick
succession (about once a second).
3. Remove the key from the ignition and
press any button on the remote
control.
4. Reinsert the key and turn to position
II then 0. Remove the key and test
the remote control to confirm
programming has been successful.
Reprogramming the unlocking
function
Note: When you press the unlock button
either all the doors are unlocked or only
the driverââ,¬â,,¢s door is unlocked. Pressing the
unlock button again unlocks all the doors.
Press and hold the unlock and lock
buttons on the remote key simultaneously
for at least four seconds with the ignition
off. The direction indicators will flash twice
to confirm the change.
To return to the original unlocking function,
repeat the process.

Do the above for Key1 but only do steps 3 and 4 for Key2 and any others :)
