Title: Linkage problem
Post by: Mikeyg on March 31, 2015, 10:41:54 AM
I recently had my mk3 in the garage to have a clutch and flywheel changed.
Every now and again in the 200 miles or so I've done since, I lose the top row of gears (including reverse)
You can hold the stick in and they work fine but if you let go, they pop out into neutral.
Bottom row (2, 4, 6) all work ok.
The weird part is that after a while, the top row comes back and R, 1, 3, 5 all sit back in nicely again.

I had this on an old Corsa years ago and the garage fixed as gear linkage issues.
Would this be the same on a Galaxy or could it be something more?
Just seems co-incidental it's only started doing this fairly soon after clutch/flywheel work

Hope someone can help
Mike

If it's only been an issue since the clutch was changed then it's possible they disturbed the gear linkage cables/ adjustment in the process of removing and refitting the gearbox, or something isn't properly secured somewhere.

I'm out with the Forces in Germany so it went into a German garage.
According to their pigeon English (I really should be able to speak their lingo better myself by now) the mechanic said there was something "in the mechanism" and she handed me a kids small rubber power ball!!
How bizarre!
Only cost me 15euro for that and them fitting a wing mirror so happy all round! :)
