Title: Rear caliper
Post by: Galasz1 on March 28, 2015, 11:15:37 AM
I bought the rear discs and pads for my car but now I'm having second thoughts. I realise that there are 2 types of pads for the 268mm discs. The ones I've got are the smaller 87mm ones. Are the calipers+carriers different or just calipers? Ideally I should've upgraded to bigger brakes but funds prohibit it. Thanx for any replies.

I don't know for sure but I think it unlikely that different calipers intended for different sized discs would use the same carrier bracket, after all, a larger disc would likely foul the carrier bracket. If you mean there is more than one type of caliper used for the same sized discs then I really don't know if the brackets would be the same.

Not that I would ever take this as gospel but the Ford (http://eucatparts.com/?action=cat_ford_part&s_id_part=24735&s_id_model=99&s_code_image=G002106405) parts diagram only lists 2 different part numbers for the rear caliper bracket (number 2, denoted by the triangle)- one for the V6 model and another for everything else.

iirc the pads with the wear lead are indeed 87mm long 67.5 width 16.8 thick.
And the pads listed without wear leads are 86.5 long 51.3 width 17.2 thick

Thanx for your replies! The pads I have are the rectangle shaped ones, the other ones are elongated and with more pad to disc area! They are both for the 268mm discs though! I was told by the dealer that my discs had 15" steelies from factory! The other ones are for 16"! Cheers.
