Hi
I'm wanting to chain tensioner on my mk2 51 plate 2.3 galaxy
Is this an easy job to do and can this be
Done with the engine in the car
Thank you in advance
Gazza😃
It's not a job I've ever done so I can't speak from experience, however, looking at the parts diagrams it looks like once you've supported the engine and removed the offside engine mount you should have enough room to remove the upper timing chain/gear cover (http://eucatparts.com/?action=cat_ford_part&s_id_part=24806&s_id_model=99&s_code_image=G002113804) (number 1) on the end of the cylinder head to open up access to the tensioner (though the rocker cover bolts into the upper cover as well so is also likely to require removal). Which part are you wanting to renew? The hydraulic plunger (number 8) here (http://eucatparts.com/?action=cat_ford_part&s_id_part=24801&s_id_model=99&s_code_image=G002113003)?
Again I have not personally done the chain or tensioner on this engine.
If this engine has done high mileage then the chain aswell as the tensioner and guides should be changed.
Badly worn chains and guides are prone to wear right through the cover causing oil to leak out.
Be careful when fitting the new tensioner as once it's deployed it cannot be reused.
the tensioner and chain and any guides, the car has 102356 miles on
The clock so could do with a change but any help would be very very helpful
