Well don't believe it., car parked outside not moved over 2 weeks, i go out today and see this crack on the front screen.
it starts half way up on the right hand side and curls inwards about 6 inches ignore the two long straight lines above in the photo they are phone lines
question is how ! nothings hit it, theres no chips anywhere just a very faint crack, seems to be felt on the outside of glass only with my fingernail and then i can only feel about 2 inches in the whole length.
why would this happen, car just sat there. is it just bad luck and age related. it certainly wasn't there last time i went out in car.
driving since i was 17, thats in 35 years never had even a chipped screen. maybe my time was up ! ??? is this kind of crack in need of quick repair or do they just get bigger the longer they are left ? is on passenger side so not in vision area,
That one looks like a replacement
needed
hope you have windscreen insurance
usually does not affect main no claims bonus
Tony
thanks for that, any ideas why its just cracked out of the blue ? and what will happen will it just grow across the screen ?
They can't repair cracks, only chips :(
Yes, it will carry on now until it reaches another edge. Is it the original screen? Normally when they crack from an edge its the result of an even force being applied to the screen - ie someone standing on it (not stamping on it) although it can also be temperature related
looks like the original screen as its got some ford hologram type sticker on it, can't see how anyone has applied force or stood on it ;D maybe just bad luck . Thanks to all, looks like a new screen, any company recommended ? or is it just who the insurers say i have to use
I've seen a couple cases where windscreens have cracked after a vehicle has been lifted up on a ramp in the workshop, the flexing of the chassis as a result of being jacked up being the likely cause, not necessarily applicable in your case if you haven't been to a garage recently- though it is possible the screen was already under some stress and the act of going over a bump (for example) of some sort caused the body to flex in just the wrong way to overstress the screen and allow a crack to form, it doesn't always happen immediately after the event.
Just out of interest, how can you be sure nothing hit it?
dont suppose i can really but there don't seem to be any chips to see, it just creeps out from the side of the car, only thing i do remember now few weeks ago the trim that goes down the side of the screen had popped out so i pressed it back in wonder if i pressed so hard it cracked the glass though i would hope the glass stronger than that..
