discovered that rear engine mounting
and gear box mounting had been replaced on the glalaxy
is this a normal happening ?
something else to checkup on when looking at a change of vehicle

The rear mount, or roll restricter as Ford call it, is reasonably often changed - not seen anyone changing the gearbox mount before though
I have replaced all three engine mounts on my Mk2 - The o/s front one in particular deteriorates to the point where metal on metal occurs. They are bloody expensive though - Ã,£150 plus!!
Really? What are the symptoms? Engine noise in the cabin or clunking? I'll have to have a look at mine now, which bit in particular deteriorates? Is is the rubber outside mount or the fluid "honey pot" thing?
It's the triangular bit that sits in the metalastic cup. The main bearer is fine . Symptoms were a clunking on taking up drive - reminiscent of the drive shaft clunk whne the splines are on their way out.
Hi,
My first post here :)
I have a 231k 55 plate galaxy 115. My mounts are knackered! Ive replaced the lower one twice and I can feel what is certainly engine mount symptoms. I've purchase the upper gearbox mount but from what I'm reading the drivers size mount is what you replaced right Bugjeez? Might be worth replacing too.
Check it to see if it needs replacing. I am convinced that you should be able to buy only the part that is worn - ie the triangular bit - Fords want Ã,£150 but only sell the complete thing. If that isn't the source of your noise you could also check the CV joints - the inner toroid ones as they make a clunking noised that sounds like the splines bit as well.
Hi guys,
Reading the info about the engine mounts I'm intrigued.
Can a rumbling type metal on metal noise when idling be a sign the mounts are away? It goes away as soon as you hit the accelerator or rock the car, and sometimes isn't there when facing uphill so something is tapping again something?
It's not a real issue just annoying so I'd like to get to the bottom of it. Also anyone got any photos of which bit is being referenced as I'm still finding my way around the galaxy and its "quirks"....
Thanks
Sheridan
I replaced the mount on top of the gearbox. No difference! So I'm going to replace the opposite side now. I've already replaced the intermediate driveshaft ad stub shaft (motomax Poland). This is more a jerk when coming off and on the gas sometimes accompanied with a slap sound similar to the worn drieshaft splines shaft. The car has just under 233k on the clock so that's enough mileage to justify an engine mount.
The rumbling sound your describing my friend doesn't sound like an engine mount unless a mount is either broken or loose which would only be so if someone has been working on your car. Could also be exhaust related, loose suspension top mounts, tools left in
The engine bay! DMF rumble (which is usually quietened when pressing the clutch pedal-try it).
