Hi new to forum. Have a 2005 mk2 galaxy 1.9tdi 115 automatic. Was looking to change the gearbox oil what's the best oil and any tips on going about it. Thanks Steve.
Are you having problems with your box? or are you just changing fluid because you want to?
It is impossible to drain all the fluid as the torque converter and valve chest will not drain so to get clean fluid through the system you will need to drain and refill at least three times with a drive between changes.
Have you read the procedure for checking level

I used Mercon V fully synthetic when I changed mine, then recently had the box overhauled by a local gearbox specialist, he used Dexron 3.
The total capacity is 7 litres but when you drain if the level was correct to start with you should get 3 to 3.5 litres out.
Thanks just changing for preventive maintenance. Its hard to get info on what the box is and how to carry out the change. Have you done it on this model. ;D
To answer your question yes I have changed the fluid on this model.
