Title: limp mode until warm
Post by: roymacky on February 11, 2015, 11:34:11 PM
1 of my many many  mk 2 galaxy problems, so depressing its hard to even write about it.

it goes into limp mode 4 times every time i go out in it, always at the same point in the journey..after 1 mile and the hill..once its warmed through it doest seem to happen after that.

why do people like these vehicles? its a long story  but i now own two of these ..neither working well 😟
will that software dowload and cable from ebay dianose the fault?

cheers all

If any fault codes have been stored then a scan will hopefully point you in the right direction. When they're not giving trouble they're nice vehicles to use and drive, they have their faults but I challenge you to find any 10 plus year old car that doesn't have problems of some sort!

I've had my MK2 since it was 18 months old and has had a few of the common faults like the wet passenger floor (washer pipe), limp mode (turbo vanes), autobox (rebuilt) and driveshafts. On 140.000mls now and 12 years old

I've done the jobs as they have occurred but this is not the case with a lot of owners cars, jobs get left which can have a knock on effect and lead to more problems

morning gents

im outside again trying to rectify the niggles to find a horrendous looking fractured pipe..ive been told its likely the aircon pipe. which looks very accesible to me? doesnt look like a big job for a competent person(not me)

all this while im trying to find why the rear washer is not working

i followed the great advice on here and found the disconnected pipe in the foot well but it still doesnt wotk..after cranking the pump to get some water going i thought id best leave it , then i notice water gushing out from underneathe the car..grrrr where is this disconnected. i do appreciateall of this help and never mean to insult peoples car of choice im just losing work every day i have to be on trying to fix it and that is most days.

my 17 year old honda civic never had any problems other than normal wear and tear..shame it wasnt a bigger vehiclenthen i would have kept it.

thanks again

I love the Galaxy /Sharan motors
and have found them ideal family motors
over the years we have gone from Sharans through Passat estates
back to Galaxy and now a Sharan 140.
great for moving house with
transporting family on sporting events
now have great grandchildren so
back to people carrying.
Taking the mileages done in these motors
I think they are good all-rounders
favourite was 115 mk2 Galaxy
with good economy as well

fuel ecomony is excellent because i cant go anywhere in mine really, its not to be trusted.

any ides why water is gushing from underneath when trying to use the rear washers? i can find the leak..

just tried to remove the battery tray for a better view but snapped two sockets and failed at getting it undone..another day of losing time and money on galaxys.

hashtag depressed

Where is the water coming from- Front or rear? Passenger or driver's side? Why are you taking the battery tray off?

The fact that you still see numerous Mk2 Galaxies, Alhambras and Sharans still in use as Taxis tells you something about how good they were in the first place, and still are- if properly looked after. The TDI motors can run to mega milages with a bit of care.

P.S, if the busted air con pipe is something like this (https://www.fordmpv.com/smf2/ford-galaxy/what-are-the-names-of-these-air-con-pipes-please), then it's a fairly common problem.

If the leak is under the front and your trying to get to the pump it's behind the wheel arch liner.
