Hello everyone! When I bought the car it did not have a radio in it. It has a cd changer. Does anybody know what radio it might have been? Ford are of no help, no info available they say! Do you think I should get a different aftermarket unit (which fits) or get a genuine ford unit? Thanx for any clues/help.
something like this may have been fitted?

unless it was a satnav unit and some one decided to keep it.

It would have had a 5000, 6000 or 6006 unit by Ford (well Visteon) or possibly the MFD1 Navigation
Given the year, most likely a 6000 single CD player which can control the changer. The 6006 is a 6 disc changer and head unit in one - since you have an external changer its unlikely to have had both. The 5000 is a cassette unit but also has cd changer control - generally fitted to pre 2004 cars.
What connectors are in there? Two 8-pin rectangular one or two long thin ones? The former being the now standard ISO connectors which were used by VW at the time (Only if you had the nav)
Personally, I like to keep things standard so would be looking for a 6000 or 6006. Make sure if you do go down that route that you get the Galaxy specific one - the bezel is profiled differently against the normal rounded version.
Most of the Mk2 Ghias I've seen without sat-nav or DVD player factory fitted had a 5000 model casette player fitted up front with a CD changer in the back (mine included which is on a '54 plate), the Zetec models normally just had a 6000 model single CD player at the front and no CD changer in the back. As Mark said both 5000 and 6000 models should be compatible with the changer, if you're in need/ interested I've got a 6000 model Galaxy fitment (with the dished front bezel unique to the Galaxy unit) CD player surplus in decent nick which I'd be willing to sell.
Thanx for the replies. I'll check the connectors tomorrow and let you know. Insanitybeard thanx for your offer. I will probably get your unit, once I know/am sure it fits. Cheers.
I checked today and found 2 black long rectangular connectors. 8 pin and 7 pin ones. Also a small black square-ish one with 2 rows of 8 pins. What radio did I have? Help!!! Do you guys think I should fit an aftermarket (with nav etc) unit? Cheers.
If you can post a picture of the connectors we should be able to confirm for sure but that sounds like the factory fitted connectors for the Ford radio, the black square connector is for the CD changer unit.
As above, sounds like Ford connectors for the 5000/6000 style units.
I found out finally that car had a 5000 TAS casseteradio fitted originally! Can I still fit a Ford cd player instead? Or a better aftermarket unit? Cheers.
Yeah you can fit the 6000 or 6006.
Thanx Mark!
When I got my Galaxy it had the 5000 model cassette player up front and a CD changer in the rear, but the CD changer was busted. Being that cassette players are all but useless these days I got a 6000 model CD player to fit instead- it will fit no problems and still support the CD changer, no wiring modifications needed. However, I then found a 6006 model in dash CD changer for sale in a breaking vehicle so grabbed that instead, hence why I've got a 6000 CD player surplus to requirements. The 6006 CD changer will also fit without needing any wiring alterations but it will not support the separate CD changer.
