Title: autobox modes
Post by: marinabrid on January 13, 2015, 12:45:53 PM
Hi all
Just reading handbook, it states that with auto box you can choose sport or economy mode but it seems unclear how to select one or the other, for sport it says press throttle hard to bottom,  for economy press it gently.   now  is this with the ignition on or engine running or what,   since getting car in july 2014  it always seemed to be quick off the mark even on a very light pedal, I'm wondering if its been set in sport mode to make it like this.  so id like to set it to economy. any auto boxes owners know how to set it ,  thanks

It's not a mode that's permanently set, it automatically changes in and out of sport mode depending on how far you press the throttle.
So if you drive with light throttle it will be in normal mode, drive it flat out through the gears you will be in sport mode.
Probably not recommended  :)

Its a 2.8 V6! It's going to be quick off the mark ;)

If it rev's especially high in each gear then its in sport mode, as above its not a user set mode but a dynamic adjustment according to throttle position. It might also be worth checking in VCDS that the pedal is registering smooth movement at the lower end.

thanks for that,  no faults show on vcds   so how would i check and what readings should be showing in whats section of the vcds,
i know that if you set off you have to be very gentle on the gas to get a smooth set off, anything more than that and its off like a F1 car  8-) (nearly)
it seems to catch the wife out more than me as she drives it only now and again, I've learnt to be very easy on the gas.
must have misread the book,  i thought i pressed it gently to select economy and a hard push to the bottom to select sport before setting off, i see now what you say, so wonder if its the pedal maybe wearing on the contacts ?

Just have a look in measuring blocks and you should find them, dont have the engine running just ignition and should be able to play with the throttle and watch how smoothly you can press it.

ok thanks for that,  so i guess I'm looking for the blocks to move up smoothly to whatever number rather than jump ? never used the vcds for measuring before so forgive if i appear backwards  ???

No worries, yes the resolution will be x.xx so you should see it moving about free and smoothly well, providing you can move your own foot free and smoothly lol :)

Hi again
not being a clued up user of vacom i plugged it in today to look for the measuring blocks to see them move,  i simply can't find anything that shows a reading. i don't know which module to open to then open the measuring blocks
can you tell me exactly the procedure to follow to check this reading is smooth up and down , i see all the opening page , i open then the top left    select control module,   then i choose engine.  under there is blocks  i click but none of the digits move.
what am i missing  ? ???

You need to select the channel,

" i see all the opening page , i open then the top left    select control module,   then i choose engine.  under there is blocks"

all good to that point, you should have 9 fields with 3 channels - press the up button or manually type 1 to move the channel for the first row to 1 and then go. You'll need to go up until you find the right ones.

thanks for your help,  if it looks fine to you then it must be just the way the car is,
will just drive with a light right foot
