I posted a message on Sunday about my heated rear screen & mirror heating failing. After checking the wiring was OK and working out where the relay was (in the GEM - thanks to Chrispb), I found that there was no voltage output from the GEM when then heated rear screen was switched on (despite hearing the relay click). When I disconnected the wiring from the GEM, I found out why... The pin for the heater output was still in the connector, and the other end had obviously detached from the PCB/socket. I presume that my only option (other than replacing the GEM - which I presume is pricey) is to open up the GEM and solder the pin back onto the PCB.
Does anyone know if there is anything I need to be aware of when dismantling the GEM, or has performed similar repairs?
Well done for finding that, careful use with the soldering iron, if you have difficulty repairing the plug you may be able to bypass the plug by running a suitable lead from the multiplug around to the rear of the board.
I've just taken the one out of the Alhambra I'm breaking, will have a look tomorrow and see how easy it looks to open up!
