i have just recently changed the engine fuse box an alternator cable after it melted (common problem). since iv reconnected everything the galaxy wont turn over i have connected jump leads an still nothing. would anyone know what else i can try. when the fuse box melted the warning lights came on an car was sluggish then cut out. since replacing fuse box i cant get my galaxy to start, i would be most great full if anyone has ideas on what i can try. many thanks chris
Hi Chris, sounds like the fuse for the starter motor isn't in place or has blown. I take it he ignition comes on ok but just no start? That woukd also explain why jump leads have no effect. Try bump starting it, if it fires it would also point to a start circuit fault.
Is the car auto or manual?
Changing over fuse box and alternator lead does not cause a problem normally so would suggest the problem may have occurred prior to changing fuse box and lead or just may be coincidence that you now have a starter problem.
Check fuse 25 in the central fuse box first if that's OK I would check power supply (solenoid wire) to starter, that should be live when ignition key is in the start position.
its a manual, wen ignition is turned on there is a sound of relays clicking an climate display is flashing, wen you turn the key nothing happens, any info would be great
iv checked the fuse an still nothing but i noticed with the relays clicking the red alarm light is flashing on the door, iv not changed the alternator but does anyone think this could be the problem
Is the battery definitely ok? If it's really discharged (which it could be if the alternator charging cable got hot enough to melt- this would have meant the battery wasn't being charged properly, maybe for quite some time before the failure) then possibly even trying to jump start it wouldn't have worked. If relays are clicking and the climate control panel flashing then it sounds to me like there may not be enough juice in the battery to power the starter.
Clicking relays is usually a sign of low battery voltage can you check your battery voltage and when attempting to start.
checked battery an its all ok, wen you open the drivers door there is a relay constantly clicking an wen you turn on ignition the relays constantly click faster an car still wont start, remote central locking dont work an the red alarm light on drivers door is lit red all the time
Can you tell us Battery voltage With;
1. Nothing switched on
2. Ignition switched on
3. Starter position.
Then at starter motor check voltage on red and black solenoid lead when key is in the starter position.
Also, when you changed the fusebox (battery junction box) and alternator charging cable, did you check the condition of the cable that sits below it in the battery junction box? This cable supplies the main interior fusebox and can also be affected by corrosion/overheating.
all the cables are ok and have good connections
had the computer put on the car an its come up as a ECU fault so where to start from here, fords couldnt pin point what the fault is just said ECU fault, more money to spend again
So some bright spark has said an ECU is stopping the starter motor operating? wrong there are no ECU's in the starter circuit.
A diagnostic reader will give a numbered code with a short description, there are several ECU's on the car which one is it referring to.
Also whatever code was present are not time stamped so it could be an old fault code that's not relevant now.
You also haven't answered my previous question about battery voltage

id like to thank everyone for there help, my car is now staring an all working fine, the only problem i have is the aux heater fan is constantly on an u can smell diesel burning, is there anyway to turn it off or wat can i do to sort this,
So what exactly did the problem turn out to be?!

The thanks is much appreciated but we would be more interested to know what the fix to your problem was!!
As for the booster heater are you saying the heater is working but seems to be running all the time the engine is running? or are you saying the combustion fan only is running all the time?
starter motor was stuck an thats why it wouldnt start, but i just got this aux heater fan constantly going on it which never has before, any ideas
Its cold outside aux heaters is doing its thingâș
Removing fuse 12 will disable the heater.
The heater would normally kick in at temperatures below 10degs C does the little exhaust get hot, if so then it sounds like it's working OK
dont complain that you can hear it,thats good news.
as to fixing the car for stating the computer picked up a immobiliser fault which was checked an computer was reset an car started straightaway, since that has been done the aux heater keeps running an is still running a hour or so after car is turned off
The heater is supplied with a permanent 12volt supply from fuse 12 to pin 1 on the heater multiplug but the heater requires an engine run signal to function, that means a 12volts supply to pin 7 on the heaters multiplug, this is fed from fuse 3.
When you switch the engine off you lose the engine run signal and the heater should shut down.
You haven't by any chance got the independent heating option (timer control panel by interior mirror)
Was the heater working before the fuse box problem?
i never heard the heater running before the fuse box problem
Have you had the car through a winter before? the heater only initialize when ambient temperature is below 10 deg C
I know this is an old post (same issues i think) did your door led stop flashing? Mines like crazy also fan unit goes mad
All i did was change ignition barrel and kept old transponder as i knew they were different chips
