Can anyone suggest the cheapest place to get the parts to rebuild my Eberspacher pre heater? So far i have found loads of places but the parts are ridiculously priced for what they are!

Do you know which parts specifically that you need? Depending on the model of heater fitted (the earlier Mk2's usually have D5W-Z's whilst the later ones have D5Z-F's), there are a few common causes of problems.
I started off with glow plug short to ground and now i have flame sensor short to ground and the other fault has disappeared completely. I really need to get it on the bench and properly strip and service the heater because its impossible doing it while its connected :-(
I'm not sure of the model but i think its a D5W and it doesn't take the GH001 glow pin as i found out when i made the last attempt at fixing it :-(
Your Alhambra is a '54 reg yes? My Galaxy is a '54 plate also, at this age it's likely to be fitted with a D5Z-F model heater (which are fitted with ceramic glow plugs which in themselves are more robust than the glow plugs used in the earlier heaters, if only that was the end of the story), in which case beware- ECU faults seem to plague these heaters, take a read here (https://www.fordmpv.com/smf2/ford-galaxy/yes-really-malfunctioning-d5z-f-booster-heater/) for starters........
Yep, 54 reg! The more i think about it, the more i think this makes a lot more sense.

Just bear in mind if you do choose to go down that route the earlier heater won't fit straight in if you've got the later D5Z-F fitted, the wiring and mountings are slightly different so will need some alteration.
Thanks for all the advice, by the sounds of things the wiring alterations are the least of my worries lol. I just got off the phone from a Eberspacher dealer and they told me not to bother because they are a nightmare to repair (apparently made for Eberspacher by someone else)!
The ECU for my D5Z-F heater (which I still haven't got fixed by the way ::)) is manufactured by Hella, at least that's what it says on the casting!
J Eberspächer design the heater body and combustion chamber but several internal parts are made by others EG. combustion fan motor by Bühler, controller by Hella, glow plug by Beru
