Hi, the twist is that I have changed the relay on my 2002 Galaxy 2.3 Zetec, and it didn't cure the problem. All the classic symptoms, and it starts eventually.
So I took the new relay out, took the cover off and re-soldered all the legs on the PCB, and it looked like this had cured the problem, only for it to start again.
Any ideas? I'm looking for a wiring diagram so I can look at all the individual wires in that circuit and see if I have another iffy connection somewhere.
Any advice on the wiring, or a description of what that relay actually does/enable etc would be brilliant to help me find the problem.
Cheers!
Welcome! You should change your profile, a 2002 is a Mk2 not a Mk1 ;)

Thanks. I'm struggling to see Relay 30 in that diagram? Is it labelled something else?
Although it has all the symptoms of a Relay 30 issue, could it be something else?
I've just 'printed' that section off as a PDF for the other starting thread that's running at the moment:
https://www.fordmpv.com/smf2/ford-galaxy/galaxy-mk2-1-9tdi-ghia-130-electrical-starting-problems/
so it might be more useful to you to view the PDF rather then the images.
Those are Ford wiring diagrams so you don't get the VW quick reference numbers but I believe relay 30 is Fords K191 relay. - Hopefully someone else can confirm that but from what I can see its the only relay in the circuit.
Do you know your manufacture date? If not head to: https://www.etis.ford.com/vehicleRegSelector.do
pop your reg in and it'll tell you
Have you renewed/checked the fuel pump relay as well as relay 30? (number 167, ref. the posts towards the end of this (https://www.fordmpv.com/smf2/ford-galaxy/battery-intermittantly-dead-whilst-driving-help-please/) thread) I believe this can also cause starting issues on the 2.3 petrols.
check the aux fuse box and terminals in the engine bay, been having a similar problem but have now replaced the 2 main terminals and looks like its cured my issues
Relay 30 = K108 Fuel injection power relay in the diagram below, have also added the diagram for the fuel pump relay 167 = K4
