Hi all

I was hoping to use the sealey sx400 kit tonight to remove my faulty clutch pulley (fanbelt tensioner dancing and power steering left and right turn making noise).  I have tested the pulley and it is seized left and right.

The problem is that the sealey kit says that you can remove the pulley 'on vehicle' but with the tight space you can only use the short 12mm spline tool and 21mm larger spline tool.  Inevitably, even with a reasonably good ring spanner, the 12mm tool does not seem strong enough to cope with a tight pulley and is staring to round at the edges. 

There is not enough space to get the socket on the 12mm tool or use the socket splines provided in the kit.

Has anyone managed to get the pulley off on the vehicle?  any tips would be gratefully received.

I also want to be sure that I am not going mad and turning the wrong way so I have the spanner on the 12mm socket locked toward the back of the engine (trying to turn anticlockwise but locked against a stop) and I am then turning the 21mm socket toward the back of the engine so trying to turn the pulley anticlockwise against a locked inner shaft.  Please let me know if this is wrong!! :-[

Thanks to Mirez's alternator removal post I can remove the unit if necessary but I have to wait till weekend due to long distance travel to/from work and not wanting to risk any disasters.

sounds like the kit ive got,i managed to do mine insitu but iirc did have to use a bit of pipe to get the thing to move,as ive only done this the once a few years back i really cant add any more,so best wait for others to give you a better insight.

Managed to get the pulley of in situ.

You just need a very good 12mm ring spanner, a tube to go over the 21mm spanner and most important of all, make sure the tool stays square on when loading the 21mm spanner.  It came off a dream in the end.

Quick tip that may be obvious?

A hand towel rolled up and stuffed in the gap just below the pulley will catch any tools/bolts etc... that would have fallen down onto the under tray and caused much cursing as you look for the magnet on a stick!!
Also allows a little wd40 to be sprayed onto the pulley prior to loosening without the worry of getting it on the fan belt.
