Evening All,

Need help please?

Galaxy Mk2 1.9TDI 53 Plate.

Firstly had a problem with the lights which when pedal pressed ( Lights On ) released ( Lights On ) slight pull up of pedal and Lights out.

Now have no lights when pedal pressed and coil warning light Flashes !!!!!!!!!!!!!

To Ford got a replacement Brake Switch Ã,£20 and Green. Fitted and still no Lights and Warning light flashes

So With that checked all fuses, Looped pin 1 and 4 on connector and Lights on. Ok fitted new switch connected and nothing again.

Tested Pins 1 and 4 on meter no circuit...Tested 2 and 3 Open Circuit.. Tested old switch and 1 and 4 open circuit. 2 and 3 no circuit

Both tested off and on the bracket

Pin 1 - Red / Yellow Stripe - 12v
Pin 2 - Black / Yellow Stripe - No Idea
Pin 3 - Yellow / White Stripe - No Idea
Pin 4 - Black / Red Stripe - No Idea

Haynes and Tis does not show what Pins 2,3 and 4 actually do or go to

Anyone got any idea what is going on please?

As I see it the four terminal switch has two sets of contacts

Pin 1 12v from fuse 15
Pin 2 12v from fuse 34
Pin 3 to PCM
Pin 4 to PCM and Stop Lights

Hello chaps,

I had something the same problem on my mk1 Alhambra, it turned out to be the wrong type of bulbs in the rear cluster, took me and the brother a while to work it out, but two brake switches later we discovered the bulbs.

I had exactly the same problem. With the switch extended (brake pedal down) the two outside pins 1 and 4 close and the inside two open. Both mine were intermittent but after cleaning it works ok.  If the inside pair dont change state the flashing heater happens. These are very light contacts insde the switch and just send a signal. The other two are heavier and carry the main feed directly to the brake lights. When these contacts were high resistance the over head strip still worked but not the bulbs. Bridging 1 and 4 at the connector put them all on.
The switch opens up very easily. I would have replaced it but in the third world it is not so easy to get parts.
Ok not the third world but Portugal feels like it at times.
