Title: mk1 Vw sharan 1.9 tdi Not starting.
Post by: MartinRT on November 12, 2014, 07:28:48 PM
Hi guys,
Really not sure what's wrong with it, I have:
Tested glow plugs - all ok.
Replaced 109 relay.
Checked the 60A associated fuse - it's fine.
Tested glow plug cable terminals for voltage before relay change and no power found. I need to check it again now. But any help would be awesome.
Thanks!

Flashing when locked, immobiliser normal I'm guessing. A flash when the keys come out of the ignition.

Put a new fuel filter in just to check that, happily bled, tried it. Still no go.

She was starting intermittently before, though it was a struggle to get it to go. So I don't think it's an immobiliser fault.

Sorry for the late reply! Been busy as hell!

What does it do when you're trying to start it? Turn over and splutter a bit trying to fire or turn over with no signs of life at all? Have you checked or are you able to check for fault codes?

I think what Greg meant was what is the immobiliser lamp doing whilst you're trying to start it.

Trying to fire. Seems to be closer to life looking again this evening. I'm going to put the battery on for a full charge. Just to be sure.

Yeah I realised after I replied! There seconds or thereabouts when ignition is turned then off afterward.

Tried checking for fault codes, borrowed my friends laptop with vcds, but he couldn't get it to connect. Not sure why, wouldn't connect in his fair either. Gping to try again tomorrow.

Has timing belt been changed recently? you may have a worn crankshaft sprocket which is throwing the timing out.
Do you get any puffs of smoke from the exhaust when trying to start.
