Title: Do Ebay actually want sellers anymore? 180 day rule!
Post by: Mirez on November 11, 2014, 06:06:11 PM
Just wondering who else sells things on ebay? I see today that I've got a Legal Agreement update which, amongst other things, gives buyers 180 days (up from 45) to file a dispute. Ridiculous!

Fortunately, I don't sell that much on their but if I did, or it was my business, I'd be looking elsewhere

Yeah, I did see that, I can kind of understand it with regards to businesses selling new products on there but for your average punter just trying to flog a few secondhand items to make a few quid (after ebay/paypal have reamed you for their cut!), it almost implies that the seller is having to offer some kind of 'warranty' for their secondhand & sold as seen goods!

Yeah business's I kind of get but even for them 180 days is a very long time.

45 Days IMO was even too long, if you don't notice somethings crap in the first 30 days who's faults that really?

True, I was just thinking about dodgy/ cheap tat sold as 'new' which then packs up a short way down the line and this new rule making it easier to get a refund/replacement on poor quality goods but you're right, 45 days was long enough really.

All this is going to do is promote a load of 'this secondhand item you sold me broke/packed up after 3 months of me abusing it, therefore it's not fit for purpose and I want my money back' type claims.

You should have a look at Amazon's policy on their Amazon Marketplace traders. They do not protect the consumer at all.
I bought my daughter a titanium watch. When it steamed up after 5 months with normal use, I tried to get it replaced from the supplier I bought it from (through Amazon).
Amazon closed the claim saying the seller's policy was that I had 14 days to return it. When I re-opened the case, they just kept closing the claim and refused to proceed any further.

You seem to be labouring under the misapprehension that E Bay and Amazon are there for your benefit!!!  I rather think they couldn't give a stuff about the punter they just want to look good and keep on collecting the money and paying no tax.
