Title: Engine management light
Post by: marinabrid on November 07, 2014, 05:55:54 PM
Hi all
after taking car for mot last monday, its sat wanting for parts from ford that arrived today, garage rings me to say car finally ready   i go round in the pouring rain to be told  he took it for test ride ,   he comes back and call the manager in   who then tells me car not ready, come back monday we forgot to change the oil as instructed and we don't work Saturdays !
as i was walking out   there was a mechanic sat in car with diagnostic lead attached to an iPad.
the dashboard engine management light was on, he said he was just sorting it out ,  he said it had come on because the car had been on the ramps with the wheels turning while the mot work was done.
does this make sense to any clever person on here ?     why would the spinning wheels off the ground make the light come on,  can't fathom why he set off with the light on though to go for test drive, or if it came on during the test drive
got to wait now for call on monday

I would expect the ABS warning lamp (and maybe the ESP lamp on the V6 equipped with ESP) to come on if the vehicle wheels had been spun independently with the ignition switched on, as that would cause an anomalous reading, however, I wouldn't expect it to cause the engine management light to come on as a result- did you see EXACTLY which warning lamp was illuminated?

yes  the mechanic ? was sat in the drivers seat and had the iPad wired up , it was def the engine light as i had it come on when i got a misfire in July when i bought the car,  but i didn't hang around to see the outcome as i had to rush home and they were closing up, so who knows what they have been up to or done when they have been working on it.  we shall see on Monday.
