Title: Head Gasket Failure Rate
Post by: SiC on September 18, 2014, 08:35:20 AM
Hi all.

Would you say the 1.8tdi lynx engine is a good engine or is it common for the head gasket to fail on them?

Bought a 2nd hand mk3 Galaxy Zetec with 58k on the clock. Head gasket went so had it fixed, now its gone again!!

Not enjoying the ford experience :(

Back in the day when I worked on the Lynx diesel in it's DI and early commonrail versions (the Lynx is an onward development of the earlier Endura-DE indirect injection engine), I don't recall many head related failures, of course that could have changed due to cost cutting measures or production changes but to my knowledge they certainly used to be tough engines.

P.S, is this the cause of your lack of accelerator response?

Thanks for the info. Im not sure if the throttle issue is also related to this.

I could understand the engine going in to limp mode when overheating but on the 2 occassions in the past when the throttle stopped responding completely the engine temp was normal ...its a head scratcher!
