Title: MK2 Glovebox removal
Post by: marinabrid on September 16, 2014, 11:57:19 AM
got an annoying squeak rattle from glovebox area, on looking    the very bottom left side screw that can only be seen when glovebox is open appears to have broken away from the surround plastic so the box is loose,  can't fathom how to drop the glovebox down to access the screw,
when you open the box  there is a long plastic black strip along the top inside   can't see how to unclip remove this  without breaking anything,  I'm sure some clever bod on here has done the job ?   thanks

It's a bit of a fiddle in truth, firstly you need to remove the little trim at the left upper side of the glovebox (only visible with the glovebox open) where the latch arm that stops the glovebox opening/dropping too far sits (the trim is just retained by 2-3 plastic lugs and just pulls out). With this done, if you grab the glovebox firmly on both sides and pull it sharply up towards you it will pull out from the plastic lugs that the metal hinge pins on the bottom of the glovebox locate in. At the same time, the upper swivel flap will also fall out- it's easier to dismantle than to put it back together!

Yes, the glovebox must be open- otherwise the latch will be engaged at the top, and with it shut you can't grip the glovebox at the sides to pull it up! Don't be brutal as the metal hinge pins can break out of the glovebox base, a short sharp pull should do it. Don't forget to remove the little trim to the upper left of the glovebox first!

all done and back in place now.
