Title: Door wire woes
Post by: marinabrid on August 26, 2014, 03:27:40 PM
Hi all.    does the wires in the drivers door have any bearing on the alarm light on the door ,  it was working till today  when i thought i would check the wires again, but again the entire thing starts to go round  so  out of time till i can get to remove the trim to get behind it,  i locked the car but noticed the red light was not on,  i checked all the fuses     everyone was ok,  then i noticed the back windows wouldn't work from the drivers switch unless i wiggled the door gaiter around.   so i presume even the red door light is connected through the door wires.

Yes everything electrical goes through the gaitor, there are slightly raised lugs that are supposed to keep the socket stationary while you turn the locking ring for the plug, unfortunately what happens is when you turn the locking ring for the plug it also turns the ring  that secures the socket.
So to stop the socket turning you need to apply pressure to the back of the socket, I could just reach with my fingertips once the trim/scuff panel was removed but you may need the help of a blunt object (to avoid damaging wires in the socket)
