Hi . Just had second hand gearbox (6 speed ) and single mass flywheel kit fitted . Now My gearstick is pretty stiff - it wont move freely . Is there anything I could do with it ??
If somebody has done the work for you and it isn't behaving properly then I would be asking them to make it right.
Otherwise, then either the gear selector cables haven't been set up properly or the secondhand 'box has a problem.
Is the gear selection stiff without the engine running, and is it affecting all gears?
Thanks. I will take it to garage tomorow . And yes its affecting all gears . There is no diference if engine is running or not - still stiff . :(
That sounds like either a selector cable issue (i.e, not properly aligned when the replacement 'box was fitted) or a dodgy selector mechanism within the 'box itself- in which case the secondhand 'box that's been fitted isn't up to the job. Did you supply the box or did somebody else source it for you?
I supplyed the box and local ford garage did the rest . They say to drive it for 300 miles . It might loosen a bit . God knows how long this box was in scrapys garage :'(
Possibly selector housing issue where the selector shaft seizes in the casing, this is common with the five speed.
With the cables disconnected at the gearbox try moving the gear lever, and then try moving the levers on the box, if the gearlever is now loose and the levers are stiff on the box then the gearbox turret needs removing for investigation.
Thanks . Will try on tuesday . :)
