Hello everyone I am at a loss with my galaxy as when I accelerate the whole car seems to wobble, If I dip the clutch the wobble goes away if I take my foot off the accelerator it goes as well.
I have changed both driveshafts, wishbone bushes, track rod ends, drop links and bottom balljoints I have also changed the two front tyres had them balanced and had tracking done.
I had the clutch and dmf changed about 4 months ago the clutch functions as it should no problems getting in or out of any gear.
any help greatly appreciated
Its a 1.9 tdi 2003 ghia
thanks
I had this on my previous Galaxy and, like you, changed everything around the front end with no result. Finally fitted another set of wheels and the issue went away, put the old set back on and it was present again. Cause was the balancing was done quickly and the Galaxy is extremely fussy with balancing - most balancing machines have a "high calibration" mode, I would ask your fitter to use that and watch them carefully to rule out balancing before you go down any expensive route ;)
Thank you for your reply I will try a different set of wheels tomorrow see how I go.
Hi . Try inner CV joints . I had one failed on my galaxy and symptoms were just like yours .
P.S Even new inner CV joints have slight play in it !
My galaxy also felt exactly as you have described, quite frightening really driving it! The problem with mine was a failed drivers side driveshaft also it had caused my passenger side front wheel to almost come off!!! All 5 bolts had come really loose, lucky escape for me.
hi thanks for the reply's everyone still haven't got to the bottom of it I have changed all the driveshafts including the intermediate shaft and stub in the gearbox also changed rear engine mount (Roll Restricter) also had the wheels ballanced aswell put the rear wheels on the front (wanted to put full new set on but my mates mark 1s wheels where to small they wouldn't move because they were against the brake calliper so now at a loss where to go next
any help greatly appreciated
I have the exact same problems since having a new clutch and dual mass flywheel fitted , also changed all drive shafts , had wheel re balanced yet still a wobble that seems to come from drivers near side , oh and a wheel bearing , spent a small fortune and yet still a crock of s**t to drive , any help appreciated before I scrap it thanks
To both the O.P and gordy41 above, were these problems present before you had the clutch and flywheel replaced?
insanitybeard it was there but ever so slight compared to now , when you set of and get to around 20mph the wobble appears then goes when get to around 30 mph as you accelerate through it
Would say this is to slow to be wheel balance, this sounds so typical inner CV joint problem.
When fitting driveshafts you need to keep the inner joint as straight as possible otherwise the tripod rollers can slip off into the gaiter.
Recheck the shafts for excess movement while rotating the wheel.
Hello everyone thanks for all your reply's just to let everyone know it was a faulty drive shaft on passenger side which I changed at the start of my problem, I have changed it again and problem has gone.
Thanks again everyone
The problem was not there before new clutch and flywheel the reason I had clutch changed was due to it slipping and flywheel was knocking slightly.
