You're better off buying a higher mileage one that's been well maintained than a newer/ lower mileage shed, I usually find cosmetic condition is an excellent indication of how well something's been looked after (not that that stopped me buying one with hidden crash damage  >:( ) Other than that, read the common faults (https://www.fordmpv.com/smf2/ford-galaxy-reference-library/galaxy-mk2-common-faults/) article, and have a good check of the vehicle paying attention to the following:

-Crash damage, panel alignment and colour matching
-Bent/ crushed/ rusty sills from improper jacking- a common issue
-Correct operation of all systems including blowers, heaters & air con, wipers and washers, park sensors,
central locking and remote keys, CD player, windows, heated screens etc, make sure warning lamps for ABS
and airbag etc come on and go out when the ignition is switched on
-On a test drive, make sure everything is smooth and noise/vibration free and that power delivery is smooth
with no evidence of misfiring/rough running or power loss
-Check levels under the bonnet, lookout for leaks and make sure the coolant is actually antifreeze and not
   just water
-Make sure the undertray is fitted

Other than that it's the usual stuff when buying a secondhand car- check the paperwork, MOT, V5 and service history/ any receipts (proof of use of the correct engine oil on services and that the cambelt has been changed on the TDI is a bonus!) are all in order and that the chassis number matches the V5, make sure it's got more than one key and the owners book pack etc.........

I'm bound to have missed something but hopefully that covers most of it!

is it a private seller or from a dealer??

if its a dealer try and get a years warranty on it for peace of mind.
and again if its a dealer do not be fobbed off with 'its only guaranteed until you drive off the forecourt' .
