hi all neweeee so be gentle I have just come back off Holliday and towing my caravan I have noticed a strange vibration when the car comes to a hill , when accelerating and disappears when I ease off drives superb when not towing so any help appreciated the whole inside seems to vibrate not sure if its a misfire or just vibration from the drive joints I owned a tuaran before and that towed the van no problem and that was 105 hp and this sharan is 130hp its the first time towing with the sharan I had a new set of tyres fitted prior to going away but seemed ok until I was towing any help would be appreciated regards bbazz(//)
So it's happening under the combined effect of towing and accelerating uphill (i.e, maximum load)? It could be early stages of (more likely inner) CV joint failure, you say the tyres were changed, any possibility the wheels weren't balanced properly? All the wheel bolts torqued up properly? I take it there's definitely no issue with the caravan that could be causing it? And has the car done a lot of miles?
thanks for your reply the car has done 62000 miles and the caravan is service well and also new tyres last year not sure if the tyres where balanced on the car my daughter had then fitted as I was at work, I will check the wheel nuts today and see if the cv joints are all ok I thought that these days the ECU could detect high torque on engines and cause a misfire maybe I am wrong, I had an outboard engine that did it also the prop was to low geared and it would cause a misfire on one cylinder
That's quite a low mileage for CV / driveshaft wear I must admit. Are the towbar mountings on the vehicle all secure, no undue wear on the towball etc? The misfire is a new one on me, quite a few people tow with Galaxies and it's not something I've heard mentioned before.
Inner CV or balancing are mostlikey culprits - I have had previous "fun" with wheel balancing that only showed up under similar condition and given they have just been changed I would start there, ask then to balance them on a high sensitivity setting.
CVs on the way out produce a very similar effect though and again, those circumstances will amplify the symptoms. You should be able to feel slop in the driveshaft from underneath.
Torque cut is highly unlikely tbh, unless your caravan is heavier then the sharan itself (in which case its not suitable anyway) but these engines can have issues with the injector wiring breaking down which causes a misfire but normally this shows up all the time.
Welcome along and loving the side steps, cars looking great!
Hello Bazz and [W4]
You could check to see whether any fault codes have been logged regarding injector misfire although I also think unlikely at that mileage but best not to assume anything.
Get yourself a VAgcom/VCDS lite cable from ebay (under Ã,£10) follow the instructions and connect to your cars diagnostics and if any faults have been stored.
More info Here (https://www.fordmpv.com/smf2/ford-galaxy-reference-library/galaxy-tdi-using-vcdsvag-com-to-diagnose-faults/)
Also is your car manual or auto.
thanks everyone for your help I will be away again in a couple of weeks so need to sort it out the picture says it all I hope, got a brand new drive shaft on the way for Ã,£36.00 free delivery 2 year warranty I did a diagnostic but no codes fault it is a manual box 6 speed
Ahha a tell tale sign :) that's the n/s shaft, have a carefull look at the other side as there is a short intermediate shaft that can cause problems also.
Check for rusty dust marks
Have a look at the links below.

told yer ;)
reference to my previous post regarding vibration and seemed to be the drive shaft but I purchased 2 new shafts and the bolt that holds the stub shaft was the wrong thread so I contacted the supplier and very helpful sent me the right bolt it is M8 1.75 THREAD AND THE ONE HE SENT WAS M8 1.5 THREAD all went well until I found that the brass collar on the old stub shaft was broke in 3 pieces and now trying to fit the new one I don't know where the brass collar fits on the stub shaft as they where in a separate packet can anyone give me a schematic as to the arrangement of the SPRING =BRASS COLLER=CUP WASHER=AND CIRCLIP PLEASE as I have it stripped down at the moment and cant contact the supplier until tomorrow help would be appreciated regards bazz
Theres a schematic in the post linked by Chris three up from this one :P
sorry about that I did see it before but forgot thanks for your reply job done hope that is all ok now test drive later thanks again all regards bazz :P
sorry to say that the vibration is still their I need to speak to the tyre people who fitted the tyres all 4 where replaced before this happened so now focus on the tyres unless any one has any more ideas I will be towing the caravan in 2 weeks so I am now panicking a bit thanks to all on this forum I would be lost without you all any more idea's will be welcome regards bazz JUST THINK OF ALL THE GRAND CHILDREN THAT WONT BE GOING ON HOLLIDAY UNLESS THIS IS SORTED HA HA HA ???
Just out of interest, was the replacement driveshaft from J&R? I have no experience of their products but I'm fairly sure I've read a few tales where people have fitted replacement driveshafts from them and unfortunately the shafts have either not lasted that well or have still had vibration issues.
the shafts I got are from prime line 2 year warranty on them thanks
What brand of tyres have been fitted? If you look at the rims, have the fitters used a lot of weights on each wheel to try to balance them?
