I have just replaced my Mk1 with Mk3, very upsetting to give up on the mk1 but the box section rot near the suspension mounts was a job too far.
However Mk3 seems ok except that rain water has come in through the heated screen connections which are metal tapes insulated with fabric braid. the water is soaking in through the fabric braid, pooling above the ceiling trim then coming over mostly landing around the gear lever.
I could take it back to place I bought it from but I don't have much confidence their mechanical ability and it's a fair drive each way. The gap between the top of the glass and the roof has been sealed quite neatly with some form of silicone, at one side the channel for the roof rails has been reasonably well sealed but at the other side this is open to allow water to go above the seal along the top of the glass.
It has been suggested to me that the glass should not be sealed to the roof and that that real problem is that insufficient sealant was applied around the braids when the glass was fitted, (presumably a replacement). However I think this approach might work if the channels at the front are cleaned and sealed properly. the trim lifts out quite easily to allow access. I will post picture if I do it but does any one have strong opinions about doing this?

Ian
Do you have Screen cover on your insurance? if your fully comp then you should have.
Most insurances use Autoglass just ring them tell them you have a cracked screen they will do the rest and they can usually do a home visit as it will take a couple of hours.
