hi every one
my 2001 ghia 1.9tdi has a few electrical problems could sum 1 tell me please if they are all connected, they are as follows fog lights and reversing lights do not work, if I put bulbs in them the fog light warning light flashes on dash, rear wiper don't work either, also clicking noise from fuse box area which stops when I turn lights on. also air con don't work but that is due to a leaking pipe, which I have been told is a common fault on galaxy air con systems is this true
Thanks for any help
Sounds like there's a good chance the electrical faults are to do with with wiring insulation rubbed through and wiring shorts in the tailgate area (common problem), where the wiring loom passes from the body into the tailgate within a rubber gaiter, over time, the constant flexing of the wiring loom causes chafing and eventually, snapped cables or short circuits as the insulation breaks down exposing the bare wires, so this would be a good place to start.
As for non-functioning air con, yes, it's not unusual, it seems the compressor to expansion valve pipe is prone to failure, and the condenser prone to gas leakage from the drier cartridge housing cap.
Helo and welcome5
Yes your electrical problems are most likely down to broken/shorting wiring in the rubber gaiter to the tailgate,, you need to release and pull the wiring from the door and body cut and solder in new lengths of cable so that new cable runs through the gaiter and the joints are in the door and in the body and not inside the gaiter.
The galaxy does suffer with corrosion on the pipe work also the condenser radiator, a mobile aircon specialist with leak seeking gear is in my opinion the way to go, they will pressure test the system with nitrogen to find any leaks.
I can testify to that Chris, my Mk2 was leaking at a joint on the upper pipe from the condenser (on the nearside), there is a short pipe from the condenser itself which passes up and behind the front panel (to the right of the bonnet catch) to another pipe joint near the filler/ degas valve, this was slowly leaking on mine, evidence was in the form of luminous green dye in the vicinity of this joint!
thanks had a look at gaiter found to broken wires everything working fine now thanks
