I discovered only on Friday after owning the car for just over a year now that the vacuum hose on the egr valve was missing. Managed to trace it and found a screw up the end of it. 1) any reason why it was blanked off and 2) do the mot testing people not look out for that? I reconnected it anyway and haven't noticed any difference.
There are people out there that blank off the EGR valve valve to reduce the sooty build up in the EGR and inlet manifold, it's also been said that it gives more MPG but Iv'e not noticed any significant difference.
It's purpose is to reduce NOx emissions but this is not checked at this time.
