Title: Brake Disc Size
Post by: javedsaleem on May 15, 2014, 01:08:21 AM
Hi

I have a 2004 Galaxy Zetec TDI

I have noticed that the Front Brake Discs are large than the Rear Brake Discs.... why is this ?

Does this affect my braking, as when I brake, the vehicle veers to the left..... I was going to have my brakes checked as I thought that maybe the left front brake caliper is sticking.

Any help appreciated.

Front discs and pads are usually larger on the fronts on cars as most braking is done on the front due to weight transference.
Brakes pulling to the left or right could mean that one side is working more efficiently than the other, this could be down to poor servicing.
Worn pads and discs seized caliper, pads seized in carrier air in system can all cause imbalance.
Incorrect tyre pressures and worn tyres and steering joints can also cause the car to steer to one side.

I have a 2002 2.3 Ghia and am looking at changing the pads and discs. When I search for front discs I am getting the option of 288mm or 300mm.  Without the effort of taking the wheel off how do I find out which size my Galaxy takes?
There is the option of 2.3 140hp or 2.3 146hp models on certain websites and this affects the size required, and as no question is a stupid question, how do I know whet here mine is 140 or 146 hp??
