Anyone know why there are no volts going to my high level brake light, its really doing my head in. The 2 main brake lights are working fine. Does anyone know the wiring is it looped off one of the main brake lights.
Hi, this could be of some help to you , just recently I have been having all sorts of problems with the drivers door on my galaxy ie intermittent door not locking, windows not working etc I have tracked it down to broken wires in the wiring loom gaiter between the door and the door pillar, I assume you mean the tailgate brake light, if so I would check the wires in the gaiter as I think this is quite a common problem, hope this is of some help von.

mines the same,from my research its defo a wiring problem but to do with the rear hatch area.on mine when a new bulb was fitted it blew instantly so power is getting to it ;).so ive left it for now,and it passes the mot with it not working.

Ok there is voltage going to the top brakelight but when i put the bulb in the voltage goes to 0. Wires look ok. Anyone know anything about this.
check wires in gaiters i had problem with no plate lights found broken wire where wires from tailgate to just inside car run pulled gaiter back to reveal wires then pulled wires back a fraction to reveal break fixed with auto connector still ok . these wires become brittle with age and with constant opening & closing tailgate break hoe this helps
Hi again, just another thought, is this a recent problem or has it not worked since owning the car, if the latter has incorrect wattage bulbs been fitted to the side lights and thay are to higher wattage or 24 volt , when fitting an extra bulb into system the extra current could pull the volts down ie: ohm's law the higher the current the lower the volts. Now if the former, it could be the lamp holder breaking down/shorting out and this would have the same effect and might just be a low enough current not to blow the fuse, if the side brake light bulbs are correct you could try using a bulb in the same way as your volt meter , as if you are getting 12volts across the meter it should light the lamp, sounds a bit complicated I know but it helps to eliminate the obvious first !!!.

Going back to the wrong wattage bulbs the side brake lights would dim or go out when putting the extra bulb in the system so that would prove that theory, hope this makes sense.

think from research it requires a new loom to that area.
