Title: Driver's Door Hinge Pins (MKll) - Replacement procedure please?
Post by: Fraz-ktf on April 18, 2014, 02:20:23 AM
2005 Galaxy Ghia.

Hi.

My driver's door drops dramatically on opening because the hinge pins are worn.

Can anyone please tell me the procedure for replacing them, any special tools needed and can the replacements be bought from VW?

Many thanks

Looking at the hinges on my Galaxy, to remove I imagine you have to remove the torx headed stud on each hinge (with a female torx socket) and then lift the door clear, obviously after disconnecting the wiring and check strap. Are you sure it's the hinge pin that's worn and not a failed weld on the hinge brackets on either the body or the door?

If it is the hinge that's worn, it doesn't look like you can buy just the pins from Ford, if the pin is actually removable from the bracket it sits in then you could get it by buying number 3 on this (http://eucatparts.com/?action=cat_ford_part&s_id_part=24671&s_id_model=99) diagram, if it isn't removable then it's major as you have to remove the old hinge brackets from the door and weld new ones on!

It's possible VW may sell the pins separately (again, assuming the pin is removable from the bracket), it's basically a VW chassis after all and VW seem to be more orientated towards making more individual items available as spares, especially as far as the Sharan is concerned!
