am i reading this correctly, youve changed the keys and they now dont work? they fail to unock the car or fail to start it?.
ive never taken the key apart but im assuming they have a pats chip of some sort within them?if so did this get changed over aswell?because if not then the car wont start.
i changed the battery in the key fob and when i go to lock/unlock car it doesn't work.I've followed instructions on line about reprogramming the key fob but it still doesn't work.
PROGRAMMING THE
REMOTE CONTROL
You can programme a maximum of eight
remote controls to use with your vehicle
(including any supplied with your vehicle).
Programming a new remote
control
1. Insert the key in the ignition.
2.
Cycle the key from position
0
to
II
and
then back to
0
four times in quick
succession (about once a second).
3. Remove the key from the ignition and
press any button on the remote
control.
4. Reinsert the key and turn to position
II
then
0
. Remove the key and test
the remote control to confirm
programming has been successful.
fantastic thanks gregers for the advice it works and you saved me a hefty bill from main dealer.
excellent,we aim to please. ;)
HELP
I've just had to have another key and the above directions are nt working. Only difference is my car is a '57 S-Max, is there another procedure for my car? Please save me from the 85 quid labour charge :(
wouldnt of thought the age of your car being a problem?.
try doing it again and again and again.you wont be the 1st who has tried on numerous occasions and then finally it works.
Mayday mayday mayday
After about 20 go's it partially worked, the new key works the locking/unlocking of the car, but does start the car.
The old key does nt work the locking/unlocking of the car but I can start the car with it. :'( :'( :'(
I wonder sometimes why I'm called the customer from hell!!!!!!
The procedure outlined above that you have followed will only program the key to remotely lock/unlock the vehicle, it will not program (add) the key to the PATS system (immobiliser)- they are two completely separate procedures/systems. If the key requires programming to the PATS then I'm afraid you will have no choice but to have a dealer do it, on earlier vehicles you could add more keys to the PATS if you had two keys already programmed (two keys that start the car basically) but on a '57 plate I don't think that system is employed anymore, the key has to be added by a Ford dealer.
Ah, Ok thanks for your assistance anyway
