I don't know if anyone can help, but the handbrake mechanism on the Passenger side rear calliper has started sticking - I have managed to free it off fairly well with some wd40 and oil, but I don't know how long it will last. Good old Haynes says the handbrake mechanism isn't a serviceable item, so does this mean a new calliper?

Mine just had an MOT fail for the same thing, along with a few other small items, all now sorted.
I also worked it back to functioning, with the help of some WD-40. Think it will be good for a few more months, but with new original Lucas calipers on the 'bay for around Ã,£45 delivered, i'll be replacing mine before long. A one hour job if you are reasonably competent with spanners.
Check also the rear cable on that side is not seized.
My mechanism has seized twice in the last 18 months, the last time was in the summer. Funnily enough a week ago I had my MOT, the tester came back and said, "offside calliper leaking through the handbrake lever!"
Couldn't be bothered to explain that its the oil I'd pumped in there and given that they are likely to seize again I ended up replacing both callipers, similar price to above, Ã,£42.50 each for the proper ones.
You can service the callipers including the handbrake mechanism part but dismantling the handbrake part,while not impossible, is awkward, and if the shaft is corroded would be better replaced anyway.
Am sure you've checked already but the sliding pins in the caliper carrier have a habit of seizing aswell.
I've replaced both mine since I got it due to seizing handbrake. Could only tell first time by heat radiating from wheel!!
I could tell second time on mine as handbrake was floppy and loose near the floor, rather than just a tiny bit (bottom cm?) before feeling the resistance from the return springs.

The sliding pins seem fine, I will see how long it stays ok for and replace the calliper next time - you never know it may lays a few months!

I have a 2004 Mk2 1.9TDi Gal with 129K miles. The cam on the rear brake caliper has seized on the drivers side. It's the third time its happened over the last 3 years. Previously, I have been able to free it with WD40, removing the caliper and brake cable and then working the part in and out until it frre's up. My question is it possible to dismantle the hand brake mechanism within the caliper or does the caliper have to be replaced? If it can be dismantled, does anyone have a photo or an exploded view? You can buy repair kits online for a fraction under a tenner so it must be repairable but, you can also pick up a brand new caliper for a little over Ã,£40.
Personally, its not worth the hassle of not replacing it :)
I've stripped them in the past, bit of a pita job. I bought two new ones from here:

They are pretty similar to sierra/scorpio ones so this will give you an idea. The circlips are a pain if you don't have long internal and external circlip pliers

My non-expert advice would be don't use wd40 - it will soon dry off, I used handyman oil and spent a long time working it back and forth - touch wood it's still working fine
