The ball joint has two torx bolts with nuts securing the joint to the wishbone and a single nut attaching the joint to the hub, once the nut is removed you will need a ball joint splitter to separate the taper joint.

My bolts are hex not torx

Are the ball joints sloppy or is it just an MOT fail because of split rubber, if so you can buy the replacement rubbers from ebay for a couple of pound.
