Title: VCDS working but only some channels
Post by: i7555p on February 25, 2014, 08:51:36 PM
Hello

I have purchased the interface  from Gendan and I downloaded VCDS v1.2 currently in unregistered / shareware mode.  I know about com ports and device manager and it will connect to the car, I can see the power train and open doors etc.
Unfortunately I cannot see channel 18 for the auxillary heater which mainly what I wanted it for.  I've read alot on the Rosstech website but I am still not clear as to whether registering the software will make any difference.  I would be willing to pay something to get it working properly but I'm not conviced it will.

Best regards

Ian

Fortunately or unfortunately the heater on the mk1 is dumb and is not connected to the diagnostics so when you find the fault and fix it it should work I know that doesn't help you much.
In most cases especially early models the glow plug is faulty.
So start there, look in our reference library for help with this, the mk 1 has the D3WZ

Top answers!

I'm happy that it doesn't need the scanner, I'll just put the new glow plug in, if that doesn't work I'll look at the pumps, I have a spare heater from the scrap yard if all else fails.

The  lead I got from Gendan was a bit dearer than ebay but they are the official UK supplier.  You download the software, I don't know if you can get a disc.

Thanks and regards

Ian

PS I like this forum, it's easy to use and not too cluttered.
